1997 Teatown Cellars Napa Valley Chardonnay

When a highly regarded Napa Valley winery offers to sell you their Chardonnay, you buy it, even if there is a catch. Fortunately, the only catch in buying this great wine was non-disclosure of its specific origins. What we can tell you is that this wonderful wine came from some of the best and most prized vineyard sites in Napa Valley.

The eight barrels purchased were barrel fermented, stirred regularly and went through complete malo-lactic fermentation. Six of the barrels were of French origin. They were 1, 2, and 3 years old. Two were very high quality, new, new wave American Oak. The wines were racked off the lees and blended in early June of 1998. They were allowed to marry for an additional two months in neutral barrels and bottled unfiltered and unfined in early August of 1998.  224 cases produced.

The wine is a light yellow color. An attractive nose opens with aromas of tropical fruits, citrus and some mineral notes. In the mouth the fruit is assertive, yet lean and minerally with good acidity and forward fruit. The finish is long creamy with nicely balanced toasted oak flavors.

A note about corks: How many times have you opened a bottle of wine and found it to be corked? The corks that we have used for this bottling are a type called "twin-top composite". With this type of cork, tainted bottles become a very rare event, significantly less than 1%, virtually non-existent.
